At the Kasai Lab, our goal is to contribute to the advancement of research on mental illnesses, which is currently at a global impasse, by elucidating the complex neural mechanisms governing emotional behavior. To this end, we emphasize the importance of students and young researchers conducting research autonomously and enjoyably. We challenge cutting-edge research and nurture talent capable of thriving on the global stage.
Educational Policy
1
Respect for Autonomy and Enjoyment of Research
We provide an environment where students and young researchers can pursue their interests and curiosities. By enjoying the research itself, we sustain inquisitiveness and promote proactive learning.
2
Utilization of Advanced Technologies
We employ state-of-the-art technologies such as brain-wide activation and circuit mapping, in vivo calcium imaging of deep brain regions, multi-site bundle imaging fiber photometry, and opto-chemogenetic methods. When necessary, we develop new research tools ourselves.
3
Fostering Flexible and Critical Thinking
We cultivate the ability to think multi-dimensionally and sincerely face unexpected or unforeseen research results. For example, even with commonly used animal models and behavioral tests, we value the approach of carefully thinking with our own heads without being bound by existing interpretations to unravel the mysteries of the brain.
4
Acquisition of an International Perspective
We challenge the world's leading-edge research and nurture human resources with an international perspective. This enables them to acquire the ability to thrive on a global stage.
5
Enhancement of Collaboration and Communication
We emphasize collaboration and communication both within and outside the research team. Through exchanging opinions and working together with others, we not only improve the quality of research but also hone social skills.
Through this educational policy,
the Kasai Lab fosters the next generation of researchers
who possess flexible and critical thinking skills while enjoying the process of research.
